Poetry Train ~ Lied

Monday, August 20th 2007

I got nothing today. I am reposting a poem my son did in 4/2006 for english class. My son, the activist, wrote it by himself. I think he was 12 when he wrote this.

They Said He Would Be A Good President

They said, All the pilots in 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia.
I gasped.

They said, We will find Bin Laden.
I believed.

They said, There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
I cringed.

They said, We will stop the terrorists.
I doubted.

They said, We did not know the levees would break.
I wondered.

They said, We will send help.
I rejoiced.

They said, Help will still come.
I frowned.

They said, We are safe.
I laughed

They said, He will be a good president.
They lied.

Your 12 year old said it all here. For someone so young, he got that right.

They said, in a modern democracy, a people get the Government they deserve.
They were right.

I’m pretty sure I read this one when you posted it. Very powerful! I love it. And, yes, did he get an “A” on this? Because it certainly deserved it.

Yes, he did get an A.

Sparky pictures are forthcoming of the family on Weds. LOL! You have seen his rocker pic. haven’t you?

Damn, Nancy. Can I send you my kid to raise for a bit? He’s only almost-seven, but he’s nowhere this astute or has such a clear picture of things even I’m afraid to think about.

Your son is verry well aware of the world that suround him!! If he does always as well in his writting, I would be proud to have someone like him as my student!

How awesome to have a son who not only thinks, but is able to express his thoughts. I hope someday he realizes the gift he has. Somehow, just by his words here, think he will be able to live up to the responsibility that gift also requires.

This is one of those moments you feel youth will rise to the challenges we leave them.
