Title, author, and date of book?
Summoner by Gail Z. Martin, 2007
Genre: fiction, nonfiction, memoir, history, etc.?
Fantasy
What made you want to read it? Did it live up to your expectations?
ScifiChick said it was good. More than lived up to my expectations.
Summarize the book without giving away the ending.
A quest of epic porportions. What starts as a quest for one character becomes a quest for many others.
What did y
ou think of the main character?
I loved Tris. He comes from royalty never expecting to be called on to do much of anything. Yet, everything depends on him.
Which character could you relate to best, and why?
Actually, I identified with several. Tris as he learns to use and trust his powers. Carina, the healer, can heal others but not herself. Vahanian as he learns that he does not have to live his life miserable and lonely.
Were there any other especially interesting characters?
Gabriel, one of the vayash moru. Vayash moru are vampires.
Bava K’aa, Tris’s grandmother is very interesting and was one of the most powerful Mages in the Sisterhood.
Did you think the characters and their problems were believable?
Yes.
From whose point of view is the story told?
From Tris, Kiara and Jared. Jared is Tris’s brother.
Was location important to the story?
Yes. Different kingdoms are referred to often. More important is how each kingdom worships the Goddess.
Was the time period important to the story?
For me not really. This is Fantasy and occurs in an alternate time and place.
Was the story told chronologically? Was there foreshadowing?
Yes, this is the first of several books to come. History was told as needed throughout the book from Teachers located on the journey.
Did you think the story was funny, sad, touching, disturbing, moving?
Some parts are very funny.
What did you like most about the book?
The unwilling heros and heriones learn the power of who they are. And, of course MAGIC!
What about the ending?
Ended well. But, you know going in that this is the first book. Now I have to wait for the next one in 2008, The Blood King.
20. Which readers are most likely to enjoy this book, and why?
ANyone, who likes Fantasy books should like this. Solid story with great people. This would make a great beach read. It is good, but does not tax the brain w. lots of deep issues. You can just read and enjoy.

And nothing beats that awesome cover! So glad you enjoyed it too!
The cover for the next book looks amazing too.
