POLICE SHOOT OUT

Monday, July 25th 2005

It’s a Monday morning…..

My DH just called and said I cannot go to work due to a POLICE SHOOTOUT! Do you realize I live in MAINE

SIX SHOTS WERE FIRED!

A guy who lives down the street, is in a stand off w. the Police. The SWAT team is on the building next to our building, where we work and my in-laws live upstairs. (Happy Bday to my MIL today). T said, that they are not letting anyone thru either way. This is one of the busiest streets in S. Portland. Probably, 60,000 cars go down this street everyday. IT IS BUSY. Not only can I not go to work, none of my employees can go, the crews can’t get out and the customers can’t come in.

T does not know what the guy did or threatens to do…..

I told DH to stay away from the windows. Now, I can worry about T and the rest of family getting shot or something. How is it that I have to worry about guns and bullets and my family

JEEZ! I hate drama and have had enough lately. Just another reason to move to VT.

Update: I am now at work. I can see the house were all this took place from my office window. They fired 8 shots and tear gassed the house. T said it sounded like a bomb going off when they did the tear gas. The media is all over the place. A friend of ours was with the SWAT team so I will have all the details soon, I am sure.
This violence too close to home for me.

Another Update this guy was not exactly nice:

Police Arrest Man After Standoff in South Portland

South Portland police arrested 46-year-old Dana Goodine this morning at a house at 724 Broadway. The standoff started shortly after 11 last night when police got a call Goodine, who has an extensive criminal record, was in the house with a gun.
Police surrounded the house and called in the tactical team. They got help from Portland’s and Scarborough’s tactical teams, as well.
“The information that we had was that Mr. Goodin was armed,” said South Portland Police Chief Ed Googins. “We know Mr. Goodine to have a propensity for criminal activity and violence. We took all precautions necessary and throughout the night he made it clear to us that he was not going to be surrendering to us so called in tactical officers.”
Googins said throughout the night, Goodine and one of the department’s negotiators were in touch. Around 8 this morning, Goodine came out of the house and was arrested.
Googins said when the department printed out Goodine’s criminal history, it was about an inch thick. They have arrested him on charges of burglary of a motor vehicle, burglary and theft. They are continuing their investigation and Googins said there may be more charges.
Traffic was blocked on Broadway between Anthonie and Kelly streets, but it is back open again.

Not a lot of information right now, but more will be coming I am sure.

I remember working in Buffalo when the abortion doctor was killed right be hind us. And then I flew in to Atlanta the day after the guy went nuts shooting up the office. I was like dam. Then I had to work right across from the Wendy where the guy killed all the employees. Now I was starting to wonder…
